Bottom 10 Movies of 2008

I am doing a mish mash for my bottom 10, 10-6 are terrible movies I didn't see, and 5-1 are movies that were not necessarily the worst of the year but my biggest disappointments.

#10- Beverly Hills Chihuahua - This movie looked sooo terrible, then it made 92 million dollars. There are a lot of dumb movie goers.

#9- Mad Money - As soon as I looked at the poster, I vomited.
Exhibit A:

#8- Bangkok Dangerous - I think Nicholas Cage should be arrested for his hair in this movie.

#7- Meet Dave - Oh Eddie Murphy, do you know how to say no to a movie offer anymore?

#6- Meet the Spartans/Superhero Movie/Disaster Movie - Who decided that spoof movies aren't supposed to be funny anymore? If Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer ever make a movie again I will be very surprised.

#5- Smart People - This looked like it would be much funnier and more clever than it actually was.

#4- Leatherheads - The premise seemed interesting and clever, but the movie was just boring. I am a fan of George Clooney and John Krasinski, it just didn't live up to my expectations.

#3- Semi-Pro - I love Will Ferrell comedies, but this movie was just not very funny and disappointing. The Old Spice commercials were funnier than the movie.

#2- Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Seriously, Shia Labeouf is not tarzan, he does not swing on vines with monkeys. Totally ruined the movie for me, which was sad since I had this movie pegged as the top grosser of the summer (I didn't think TDK would break 350 mil.)

#1- Cloverfield - This really has nothing to do with the quality of the movie, I love Godzilla-type movies. But I could not watch the movie and just laid there with my head in Molly's lap for most of the movie. If I can't watch the awesome monster smashing, it makes the bottom of the list.

Top Ten Movies Of 2008

EDIT: I saw Curious Case of Benjamin Button today, and if I were to redo the list, it would likely be 2b. It is very hard to place, but it is totally top 3.

#10 Role Models - I love Paul Rudd. I wasn't sure I wanted to see the movie until I heard that Paul Rudd came onboard and did a ton of rewrites and deserved a writing credit on the movie. It was hilarious.

#9 Step Brothers - This movie made me giggle with glee. I love the Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly combo, plus it brought back awesome memories of my childhood with my brother. Like when they reconfigure their room to bunk beds, it was something I could see Mike and I doing.

#8 Forgetting Sarah Marshall - This movie makes the list if for nothing besides the Dracula Rock Opera. But the rest of the movie is hilarious also. I am a big Jason Segel fan. All the supporting actors were great in this movie too, except for Jonah Hill, his character was obnoxious.

#7 Wall-E - One of my favorite Pixar movies, and easily the best animated movie of the year.

#6 Incredible Hulk - I love Ed Norton and comic book movies. Easy peasy. Hulk had disappointing box office numbers but it was the bad taste from the previous Hulk movie rather than on the merits of this one.

#5 Iron Man - Robert Downey Jr. was a fantastic choice for Tony Stark. It had great action, it was funny, and very well written. A fantastic summer blockbuster.

#4 In Bruges - I really liked this movie, it started out quite lighthearted as an assassin was stuck in Bruges waiting for his boss to give them the go ahead to leave. About 3/4 the way in it takes a much darker turn and gave the movie much more depth. The best Colin Farrell movie in a loooong time.

#3 RocknRolla - Guy Ritchie made two great movies (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrells, and Snatch) then married Madonna. Forgot how to make good movies (Swept Away) now seperated/divorced makes another fantastic London underground crime movie. This only got moved down from #2 because of how awesome Slumdog was.

#2 Slumdog Millionaire - Danny Boyle is amazing. The story was really well written, the directing was awesome, and the actors were also quite impressive.

#1 Dark Knight - How could it not be #1?

Movies I didn't see but could have been on the list:The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Wrestler, Gran Torino, Rachel Getting Married, probably all those other movies on other peoples lists.

Phase one of Grover's room and snow pictures.

I love the view of snow from our bed

And we can see the creek from our backyard right now

I started putting together Grover's room this week. So far I really like it. I'm ready for the snow to go away so that my dad will leave his house and can take all the junk we are getting rid of to the thrift store so that we can totally clear the room out.

I painted the walls this color:

(In real life it is a little brighter and has more yellow in it.)

I started painting the tree. I have to add the leaves and the picture frames to the "family tree" still.

Your favorite type of blog...

A picture blog!
But first two conversations that explain why I am so exhausted at the end of the day...
Me: His hair was smooth and sleek. What do you think sleek means?
Student: Oh! Oh! I know! It means wall!
Me thinking: Really, thats what your going with? Wall?
Me: how many times does 4 go into 20?
Student: 10
Me: No, 4 times 10 is 40 so it has to be smaller than 10
Student: Oh... 11?
Me: *slams head against wall*
Ok...on to pictures:

story
I wrote this story in college. I just found it while packing up my house and remembered i was real proud of it... (durnig class one day we had to do five minute response after listening to a poem about apple trees and peace...the poem led to a story about my parents divorce)

Apple trees and votes for peace. What a great word this would be with both. As a child we had an apple tree. It never grew apples because it was all by itself. One day daddy brought home an apple tree. We married the trees and rubbed their leaves together. It was so simple, we were so happy. The next summer we had so many apples! That was a time of peace. Peace. Quiet before the storm. I miss the days of peace and apple trees. Love. Complete Love. Some days I feel that peace again but there are no more apples. No more apples in the backyard and at those times life seems so sad. So incomplete. What good is peace without the apples from before the storm. The storm. The storm came so quick. So unexpected. One day there were my married trees, and stolen apples from their branches when no one was looking. Peace. Then was the storm. I was ripped away from my trees and my peace. Thrown into not one backyard but two. Two backyards. No apple trees. No apples. No peace. The storm raged on for years. Years of anger, resentment, struggle, fear, loss, sadness. The storm was strong and on it raged. Then as suddnely as it started it stopped and there was peace. There were quiet days. There was love, happiness, joy, peace. There were still two yards and days of stormy weather, but there was peace. Yet still no married apple trees. And on the days of peace there was a bittersweet sadness. The storm was gone, the peace was back but without the trees it could never again be complete. Trees and votes for peace, what a great word this would be with both.

I made the super cute cake for going to Jason's grandparent's house tomorrow. (Grandpa likes deer.) The deer half way through
the finished deer
the impresive side of the cake.
